South Cotswold Probus Club
For Retired Professional and Business Men
Welcome! The aim of this website is to introduce you to our Probus Club and to give some idea of who we are and what we do.
The club was founded in 1989 to provide opportunities for retired professional and business men from different walks of life to enjoy the company of others with similar interests. Most of our members live in the area bounded by Kingswood, Downend, Thornbury, Winterbourne, Frampton Cotterell, Yate and Chipping Sodbury in South Gloucestershire north of Bristol.
We meet in the Shire Way Hall on the edge of Yate, BS37 8YS usually on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday in the month, at 10.00 am on Tuesday (except December). The first part of the meeting starts with a welcome to the Speaker for that week from the president. Welfare of members is notified by the Welfare representative who is usually the retiring president. The other matters brought to the meeting are future trips to the theatre, planned trips to interesting places in the country and activities such as golf, whist, curling, boules etc.
The speaker usually starts at about 10.30 am and there is a break from 11.00 am to 11.30 am for coffee. The speaker then finishes his talk and there is an opportunity for questions. At about once a quarter in the year there is an extra meeting where the ladies are invited and this is followed on by a lunch either on site or in the summer to a local Inn. Widows of former members are also invited to Ladies Day.
Our club is a member of United Kingdom Probus Clubs and copies of their quarterly magazine are made available to members at our meetings.
